No sooner had our crews emerged from the difficulties of the pandemic that they found themselves threatened and attacked by the Houthis in the Arabian Sea and even at greater distances in the Indian Ocean. Increasing attempts at piracy in the region compounded the above-mentioned perils. We wish to convey our deepest appreciation to our crews for their commitment and motivation.
The updated Economic Impact Study on the Belgian shipping cluster charts the economic importance of shipping in Belgium. The study offers insight into the economic key figures up to 2020 of the initial study carried out in 2001, as commissioned by the RBSA.

The corona pandemic continued to have a major impact in 2022, both on our seafarers and on the shipowners’ crewing departments. We owe thanks to all personnel, both on board of our vessels and on shore, as they spared no efforts to enable the timely embarkation and disembarkation of our seafarers in accordance with their employment contracts.

The paper examines the worldwide environmental liability regime which governs liability and compensation for environmental damage from shipping incidents in the European Union under the umbrella of the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
